I cannot begin to imagine having internet back when I was a child. Outside of school, I mostly hung out in my room playing video games and watching TV. If I had a computer and was on social media as a dumb, know-nothing kid again, I'd be worrying over every silly little thing everyone else was talking about and taking every negative response to my remarks personally, rather than quietly playing my Nintendo and spoiling my dogs with hugs and cuddles. A cozy bubble of ignorance, I suppose.

Hopefully, your NG experience has not been adding more social media stress in recent weeks.

other than the anxiety i get when i open a notification, it's been OK here on NG recently. i just hope i don't betray myself and do something stupid that brings my whole reputation down and then i have to do all that "i'm going to leave" stuff for the thousandth time. those types of thoughts make me wish i'd stayed a lurker forever

@ToggleDragon "those types of thoughts make me wish i'd stayed a lurker forever" - Most people have those thoughts all throughout their lives. I even continue to have a few of them about embarrassing things I did back in grade school. I think it's how the brain keeps a person humble. The ones who don't take those sorts of social risks usually grow up to be arrogant and insufferable. With enough of them, you eventually replace having extreme thoughts of "I'm so terrible! I have to leave this planet forever now!" with "Sigh... yeah, I messed up again. Aww well. I'll do what I need to do in order to make amends and hope I do better next time. If some don't forgive me, then I guess we were never meant to be friends. Such is life."
